Campaign Notes (2k)

Battlestar Galactica is ripe with scenario ideas and campaign plots, but for those for need some initial pointers then here we are!

As far as I can tell, there are two main timelines for playing in - during the Thousand Yahren war, and during the Exodus.

The time of the Thousand Yahren War is - obviously - one of war. Pitched battles, retreats, planetary conquest, annihilation and the like. Think war on a large scale. This is even more so when you consider that the Cylons want the humans destoyed, not captured.

The Exodus is the timeline after the war has come to its final conclusion. The human race lays scattered and in pieces. In many places, they are just waiting for the Cylons for to kill them. In other places they are retreating with whatever they can take with them. In yet other places, they are attempting to strike back.

But there are other campaign ideas around, and here, we try and present some other ideas.

Mainly, this information is based on a humans point of view. This is generally because the humans are usually more flexible in their approach and outlook. The humans are mainly considered to be the 'Good Guys'.

Cylons:

There are two sides to every conflict, and this one is no different. Okay, so the Cylons have the advantage in numbers and a strong Empire, but at no time during the Exodus did the Cylons ever throw their entire weight at the Colonials, indeed they seemed to go quite lightly against them. Why?
Maybe the Cylons are vying against themselves, not in a military sense, but political way. The IL series of Cylons are known for their deceptions, and it might be that if one does not get results within a certain time, then they will be replaced and someone else will take over.

It may seem that the Cylon player has the duff straw, but it shouldn't be so. While they might have a larger fleet (almost certainly), they have to find any rogues, and with a spread out fleet, they might not have the firepower to destroy the fleet in a single strike.

Or situations could be reversed (this would be a time during the Thousand Yahren war), where the Cylon player has only a couple of Baseships and the Colonial player is trying to track them down. The Cylons do not believe in waste, and sending a couple of Baseships into a hopeless fight is considered loss.
