Defensive Equipment
It's all about seen and be seen, or sometimes just how much damage you can soak up before you're so much confetti! Well, we don't won't to see our valued customers end up this way, so pick up some defensive equipment today, and wipe that smile from their faces when you won't go down!

IMPOVED! Foxers:
Foxers are great, but can they sink? Can they float? Are they useful for submarines? Yes! Now we've added neutral bouyancy to them, they'll stay where you want them to...
Foxers: When dropped, the foxer counter should be placed at the altitude of the firing unit. For boats, this will be at sea level, for subs, this will be their current depth. Foxers will then stay at that depth until destroyed.

Launched foxers:
Foxers are lovely little bits of defensive gear, but dropping a foxer behind may not be what you want in every situation. So, rectify that now with the launched foxers, and let them fly free to creat havoc elsewhere in the world!
Launched foxers: These add $150, 50 lbs and 1/2 space to a normal foxer. The foxer then can either be dropped as normal, or may belaunched as a depth charge, in which case use all those rules, although the foxer floats and will not sink. A foxer becomes activate the phase that it hits the water.

Sonar/Radar proof armour:
They said that it couldn't be done, that the two systems were completely incompatible and that a defence against one wouldn't work against the other... Well, it's not the first time, and we're sure it won't be the last, but the boffins were wrong, and now you can have a defence against being seen whether you're above or below the water. Sure it's expensive, but how highly do you value your life?
Sonar/Radar proof armour: 8 times the normal cost of armour, same weight. Fireproof versions are available for twice this cost. This armour acts like normal sonar or radar proof armour depending on which system is being used to target the craft, which basically means that the sonar part will come into play on or in the water, while the radar proofing will come into play when the craft is out of the water.

SoundEx-Koating:
So, you only want sonar proofing until you get to the enemy, and then you just don't care? Or you can't afford the cost of a full armour upgrade? We have just the thing for you - SoundEx-Koating! Simply apply this to your armour, and you'll be sonar proof until you get hit! Get some today!
SoundEx-Koating: This costs ten times the cost of 1 point of armour, and weighs the same as one point of armour. It must be bought for all armour locations, and it adds 1 DP to all armour values. This is effectively the same as the Stealth Kote Shield for other vehicles, and follows all the normal rules for that armour, except that all benefits are only applied against sonar, not radar.

Dropped sonar array:
You're flying around in your fancy helicopter, you're out to make submarine pie, and you're loaded with the best torpedoes that money can buy. Only one problem... How do you find that sub? Well worry no longer! We have the new Dropped Sonar Arrays in stock, just lower one of these into the water, let it ping away and there you go... submarine found, torpedoes away!
Dropped sonar array: $4,500, 120 lbs, 1 space, 2 DP This is a small sonar unit that is attached to a small winch and dropped into the water by a stationary aircraft/helicopter. It has a maximum length of 30' and takes 1 turn per 15' to reel in/unwind. Once in the water it is treated as normal sonar, it may be targeted at -4. It may also be armoured at $10, 2lbs per point (max 10 lbs). May have a Depth finder built in.
A dropped sonar array may be made into a passive dropped sonar array for $6,750

Passive sonar:
Sonar is very noisy. It finds things by pinging them with noise, and collecting the reflected waves to determine if something is there. These pings are what instantly gives away the using machine, and pow! A nice juicy target to hit.
What the stealthy want is a way to find out what's out there, and not give themselves away, and passive sonar is the way to go! It collects the noise given out by others, which gives it a greater range than sonar, and it doesn't make any noise either... what could be better?
Warning: Passive sonar is actually worse than sonar for detecting stealth ships.
Passive sonar: $9,000, 150 lbs, 2 spaces, 2 DP. Passive sonar works by detecting the emissions given off by other objects. It has a basic range of 1.5 times the normal sonar range, and any boat, sub, torpedo or other active unit will be detected as normal. Objects that do not give out any emissions (such as floating mines, wrecks and the like) will not be detectable by passive sonar. Any unit using active sonar (even if stealthed and quiet) will automatically be spotted by a passive sonar vessel.
Where a passive sonar falls down, is trying to detect something that doesn't want to be detected. Any ship with sonar proof armour or a propeller noise reduction system or a stealthed torpedo, must be rolled to be detected just like any other sonar using unit, however do not apply any sonar modifiers, and the roll to be undetected is changed to 1-5 (from 1-4), thus making it a lot harder.
A sub using passive sonar will never be detected by using the passive sonar, and passive sonar will never set off a sonar detector because the sonar unit doesn't send out any signals to be detected! For this reason also, if the passive sonar equipped vessel has sonar proof armour, the sonar modifier is never applied unless it is using active sonar as well.
Passive sonar (like active sonar) drains 10 PU per hour of continuous use.
It may not be used to determine the depth of the seabed.

Sonar buoy:
Or you need to cover a large area? Well, drop these buoys everywhere and then voila! Reclaim the friendly seas!
Sonar buoy: $4,000, 75 lbs, 1/2 space, 2 DP This is a small floating buoy that is dropped or placed into water. Once there it acts like a sonar, and has an LDR which it uses to send the information back to a receiving vehicle (which must have a sonar display ($500, 25 lbs, no space) and LDR. It may be targeted at -4, and may be armoured at $10, 2 lbs per point (max 10 lbs). May have a Depth finder built in.
Sonar buoys may be made Passive Sonar Buoys (and thus using the passive sonar rules) for $6,000. Sonar buoys cannot be active and passive.

Sonar detector:
Underwater its all about sound. Everything creates it, and sonar picks it up. And almost everything uses sonar - subs, ships and homing torpedoes! Aaarrgh! Well, worry no longer, for when you've installed this beauty you know when you've been pinged, and then you can strike back!
Sonar detector: $500, no weight or space. It functions exactly like a radar detector (UACFH pg 57) only it detects sonar and any sonar lock-ons, such as from homing torpedoes. Like a radar detector it may be linked to counter measure devices (such as foxers). If linked to a torpedo foxer, the torpedo is treated as if was fired on automatic and may not be aimed. May be combined with Dropped sonar arrays and sonar buoys. Note that it will Not detect the submarine or torpedo using the sonar, just the fact that one (or more) are out there. Somewhere

Sonix:
There are times when you're on the receiving end of several homing torpedoes, your armour is weak, and there just doesn't seem a way to shake those guys... Well, worry no longer, for the flick of one switch on our new Sonix, everything sonar based goes blind, and you just glide home to safety!
Sonix: $8,000, 200 lbs, 2 spaces, 1 DP. Functions exactly like a Bollix (UACFH pg 60) except that the range is only 1 mile (and may be decreased at the referees option, this is the maximum), and it only affects sonar and under water based devices (including Sonar, sonar IFF, foxers, sub communications, homing torpedoes and so on - normal unguided torpedoes are unaffected). Like the Bollix, it is also illegal.
