Renegade Tech is a variant damage system for the game BattleTech, based on the hideously good game Centurion, part of the Renegade Legion series.
The basic concept is that all weapons don't do the same type of damage, i.e. one point of damage from an autocannon is not handled the same as one point of damage from a laser. Each armour location from a vehicle is represented graphically as a block of squares (in the case of Renegade Tech, it is 6 squares wide, and a variable amount deep, depending on the amount of internal structure and armour the vehicle has), and weapons use a template to determine the actual damage scored. This can mean that penetrating weapons (like lasers) drill thin deep holes through the armour, while autocannon gouge great hunks to get to the vital components beneath.
Currently available are the rules (in their 13th draft) which includes all the rules needed to be able to play, including weapon templates, record sheets, rules for 'Mechs, vehicles, infantry, power armour, ProtoMechs and more. Additional supplements handle optional and variant rules, Aerospace vehicles, repair and salvage, a large amount of ammunition types and more. Aerospace 2 draft: Aerospace 2 draft rules have been updated - now with extra small craft!
