June 2008: Over the next few weeks, Renegade Tech will be recieving an overhaul into version 1.1. This has long been overdue and will update the rules to the Total Warfare set. This will not change the core RTech rules - after all they work fine and have been playtested by many people over many years - but it will give me the chance to refresh the text, bring the examples upto date, revise (or remove) the expansions, update the HTML on the website and so on.
So while I make the checklists and dig out my notes, is there anything you would like to see changed? Any particular rule that is unclear and needs more explanation, anything you think is missing or no longer valid, examples that do not make sense? If so, now is the time to make your voice heard and email me - I make no promises, but I do read all my email (and respond to it too) and you never know until you say.
Renegade Tech is a variant damage system for the game BattleTech, based on the hideously good game Centurion, part of the Renegade Legion series.
The basic concept is that all weapons don't do the same type of damage, i.e. one point of damage from an autocannon is not handled the same as one point of damage from a laser. Each armour location from a vehicle is represented graphically as a block of squares (in the case of Renegade Tech, it is 6 squares wide, and a variable amount deep, depending on the amount of internal structure and armour the vehicle has), and weapons use a template to determine the actual damage scored. This can mean that penetrating weapons (like lasers) drill thin deep holes through the armour, while autocannon gouge great hunks to get to the vital components beneath.
Currently available are the rules (in their 13th draft) which includes all the rules needed to be able to play, including weapon templates, record sheets, rules for 'Mechs, vehicles, infantry, power armour, ProtoMechs and more.
Additional supplements handle optional and variant rules, Aerospace vehicles, repair and salvage, a large amount of ammunition types and more.
Aerospace 2 draft: Aerospace 2 draft rules have been updated - now with extra small craft!
